I agree that Dr. Fu and her staff are very friendly, but I take issue with the way they treat nursing. I was told that my daughter had dental caries from nursing and that I should wean her immediately. Not only did I take issue with the method Dr. Fu recommended (that my daughter stop nursing immediately, not gradually - obviously she has never nursed a toddler; I can't imagine the psychological damage that would do), but a second opinion by another dentist insisted that my child doesn't have cavitites at all. I never knew that cavities were a matter of opinion!

She's an excellent dentist and my kids like her and everyone in the office. The movie screens in the ceiling (with headphones) are great for keeping younger kids' minds off of the dental work. But--if you don't like other adults addressing you as "Mommy" tell them right away, or the entire staff will call you that rather than your name. Irritating.

Dr. Maria is awesome. The bio on her website says it better than I can:
"Dr. Maria Aganon-Fu is affectionately known as "Dr. Maria" to her patients. She received her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. She completed three years of advanced specialty training in hospital-based pediatric dentistry at the University of California at San Francisco and Oakland Children's Hospital. She is a board certified pediatric dentist holding a Diplomate status in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Maria enjoys her tenth year of private practice and her faculty staff position in the Craniofacial Anomaly Clinic at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. She holds medical staff privileges at EI Camino Hospital, Lucille Packard Children's Hospital and Oakland Children's Hospital."

Dr Maria is incredibly warm, comforting and reassuring with her young patients. She works quickly, but the experience doesn't feel rushed. She takes the time to explain issues carefully, and she does NOT belong to the school of "we need to do everything now" on things like a small jaw, possible overcrowding, etc, although I'm sure she would be amazing in an emergency. Dr Maria also has her practice set up to work with children who are in wheel-chairs.
Her husband, Dr Leonard Fu, treats adult patients and he's equally impressive. He mills porcelain fillings right away (takes 8 minutes), so you can be in and out with a great filling job done in one appointment.

Dr. Maria and her whole office team are wonderful! Dr. Maria is so friendly and puts us all at ease. She works with you and your kids to get in and out of their mouths quickly, gently and effectively. My daughter prefers to sit on my lap. My son is in a wheelchair. Each of them is allowed to be who they are and act their age. This gives them a sense of control and makes the whole dentist visit go so smoothly. Plus, there's always a surprise toy or sticker after the job well done!

She has a small yet nice waiting room with a train table , books and some toys for the kids. Dr. Maria and her staff are very nice and friendly. They sure know how to put the kids at ease. Each room has a roof mounted tv screen and the kids get to pick the movie that they want to watch while their teeth are getting cleaned. They also get to pick a toy from the toy box on their way out.
