Spoke to Ken, he focuses on Koi ponds and water gardens, he recommends at least 2 feet if you want to KEEP your fish, with straight sides... So no fountains...

They work with backyard ponds and are members of the Santa Clara Koi Pond Club - making sure the water flow and filter systems keep the water healthy for the fish.
