Del Mar has made awesome strides in the past two years in all areas. Jim Russell is a very strong very kind principal who shows great leadership to both the faculty and the students. The parents seem to be quite involved with Del Mar.

I think the most obvious reason that Del Mar High has seen an upswing in attitude and test scores is principal Jim Russell. His leadership and direction is clearly evident. We had huge doubts about sending our 2 children there. Now I'm glad we did. My daughter has been accepted to 5 state colleges and my son will soon transfer to one. Thanks to Jim and the entire DM staff for making this a better school and one that the community can be proud of. John Welch

Del Mar actually offers so many AP classes for the students, even though it is just a public school. It may lack in the extracurricular aspect but academically it can really be what a student makes of it. More importantly, the teachers really care and give their all.

Del Mar offers great AP classes. The quality of the music and arts programs are poor. There is a wide range of sports programs available with some great coaches. There is not a lot of parent involvement at this school which is a shame.

My son has been put in the Special Ed class. The teacher has been great and was able to gain the trust my son was needing. The class room size is small and has 9th and 10th grades combined. My hat is off to the teacher, as he teaches a wide variety of curriculum. I do have concerns regarding the safety of the students. I really can't comment on any extracurricular activities as my son has not particapated in any this year.

I have had two sons go through Del Mar. My second son is graduating this year. He has been accepted to Cal Poly, Davis, Chico and San Jose State. Test scores are very misleading. The caring climate and supportive administration make this a great school!

As a student of Del Mar, I personally love it there and I feel no harm from other students. Ms.Sadeghi is an excellent teacher as well.

My daughter is top of her class and loves Del Mar. She could have gone anywhere, but we wanted to give Del Mar a fair shot. It has been much better than we dreamed. She is excited about the challenges and says her teachers will teach her a lot. She says there are no mean kids and that everyone there is nice (of course as parents we know that there have to be mean kids somewhere.) She has been on 2 Varsity sports teams so far as a Freshman... something that wouldn't happen at a private school. There are *so* many activities/clubs to select from that it must be difficult for the kids to choose! They even have a parent dance... yes, a dance for parents only with live music, fancy decorations, great food. The principal is very hands-on, a good listener, and a great leader.

Bare minimum with academic programs. Very little funding in terms of sports and extracurricular activities. Decent parent involvement through Dons club.

Although a struggling, but achieving school, Del Mar has made some progress. In the early 2000's Del Mar was an underpreforming school. Now however, it is improving its API scores year after year at such a rate that it is ashtonishing. After Principal Jim Russel has taken office, Del Mar has seen some reforms. It is not the all layed-back 'do whatever you want' type of school anymore. It is more strict. In Russel's philosophy, if you try your best, you will be the best. If you do not try at all, you will be met with some consequences. It is simple and clean. Although the media has shown a negative light on Del Mar recently, it is infact an understatement. A large percentage of the community is in fact good students. It is a minority of the students however, that sullies Del Mar's reputation.
