San mateo high school has a lot of spirit! The kids are in a brand new state of the art building, which is beautiful. My daughter is thriving academically, but is struggling socially, it is a tough school for her. They have an excellent drama department and wonderful, caring teachers! She needed extra help in math and language arts and sm high did not hesitate to put her in the appropriate classes and now she's doing much better. Overall, I think the school is very good and it is very diversed.

The quality of education can be very high, depending on student ability. Test scores are misleading, because the student body is extremely diverse in terms of education, ethnic, and socio-economic differences. Thus, despite the test scores, you will find students at SMHS performing at exceptionally high levels. The teaching staff is more than able to meet those levels.

San Mateo High School is a great school. MyI have thouroughly enjoyed everything about it. The academic quality of the school is great but what is really special about San Mateo High School is the Leadership proram and it's amazing amount of spirit. The program is probably the best in the Bay Area. The Student involvemnet is at such a high level , which really creates a wonderful and fulfilling environment to learn and grow in. The School Spirit is also incredible. Everybody attends sporting events and school activities and everyone cheers and comes with San Mateo Pride. We have a saying at San Mateo High School, Peace, Passion, and Pride, which really encompasses the overall feeling and attitude of the school .

A very good school but not very personalized. Excellent drama program and other various things but I never felt fully supported and comfortable there because of the competition.
