I have been going to Berryessa Chinese School since I was five years old and I really like it. It goes up to the twelth grade, and there are three different campuses: Morrill Campus (Pre-K- 3), Sierramont Campus (4-7), and Piedmont Campus (8-12). This Chinese school is on Saturday mornings from 9:00-11:30am, and the kids learn the necessary skills to communicate including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
After Chinese class, there are culture classes, which include a variety of things one can take such as Chinese dancing, KungFu, guitar and badminton (for the older kids), Calligraphy, and many more.
Berryessa Chinese School also holds a number of exciting and fun events each year such as the October carnival and the big competition in the months of February and April. The Spring performance is also held each year in which each culture class is able to perform and show parents what they learned.
There is also a competing culture class, which studies the culture and history of Chinese. Recently, they attended and won the ANCCS Culture Contest. I think that this class is very useful, as it helps the child to learn and enhance their knowledge of Chinese history and culture.
This school also includes Cantonese classes. There are not as many Cantonese classes as the Chinese classes, but if you request, you can be put into a Cantonese speaking class too.
The faculty and teachers are very nice and helpful. There are a few teachers at my school who are outstanding and have helped me to understand the importance of Chinese. Most students are very close with each other due to being in the same class for so many years. I really like this Chinese school and I think it is a great place for your child to learn Chinese.
