I did some work through Elance about 6 years ago (and since got a regular full-time job, so I haven't been freelancing in that time), and I found them very easy to work through. I doubt they've gotten any less easy to deal with since then. Posting your services is free, BUT they take a cut of any fees you earn on jobs obtained through their site (when I worked for them it was around 10%).
