i think this school is a great one but there are a few problems. The dress code is taken way to seriously. They make you change your clothes if your skirt is even a fingernail too short.

It is a pretty good school but the education level is a little bit low.

My daughter just started attending CMS as a 6th grader. My older kids attended while it only had 7th and 8th graders and they received a good education. Molding the 6th graders into the overall school is going to take some time. The school has one counselor that serves all 1200 students. In the first few weeks of school that job can be overwhelming. CMS has a good sports program but my daughter was disappointed when she had to compete with 7th graders for softball tryouts. There was no 6th grade team to try our for. This is probably a district decision which can affect the self esteem of a young athlete. The band program is top notch. It feeds into the mighty mustang band from Homestead High. The school launched a new website this year and hopefully it will be kept up to date to be effective.

I think Cupertino Middle Schoool is really excels in the sports and recreation domains...but it really needs to improve in the academic evalutation of the school............. teachers must be little more than average but overall Cup is fine.......

Academics are great at Cup! Caring teachers. Great after school sports program. The band, and the clubs are good too. Great communication with parents.

If you have a self-directed, intelligent student, this is not the school for you. Hoop-jumping is valued more than learning, and if your student is frustrated by being required to do a (relatively) simple activity in way too many regimented steps, don't be surprised when grades drop. Too many papers get 'lost' between home and school as interim due dates come and go. Assignments are parceled out piece-by-piece, so there's no way for students to develop their own organizational skills and truly be responsible for their own performance (e.g., by planning their own time relative to other commitments, applying their own problem-solving skills, etc.). This school provides an object lesson in why most people would not want to be 12-14 again.

My son spent a year and half so far and he is in 7th grade now. He loves the school and we are very happy the way he is progressing. My only complaint is the somewhat diminished extra curricular activities that is available.

The teachers are a bit poor, but they are okay. They teach extremely well, but test quality is a little bit low.

My oldest went here for 7th & 8th grade, and it was a disaster, both socially and academically. The expectations were very high and the support was inadequate (from the principal on down). The new principal is wonderful, so I'm hopeful my 6th grader will have a better experience. The homework load is too heavy, but my student is able to do the work independently most of the time.

This year the school is supposed to have 1400 kids crammed in it. My son is entering 7th grade, and his biggest complaint about last year is that no one really cares. Its basically a factory - meet the minimum state requirements while spending the fewest dollars. In spite of this, the teachers I have met were excellent.

This year it seems like half the teachers will be new and it was high last year also. I was relatively pleased with the academic although I would like to see more emphasis on writing and less on group projects. Nice offering of electives including a strong music program, woodworking, metal, cooking, textiles, yearbook, journalism, languages, study skills, drafting, home design, and more. Large class sizes averaging about 32. Would like to see more student discipline from the administration.

The academic programs have consistantly proven themselves to be above par, and have maintained a level of dificulty that is perfect for growing minds. Funding for extracurricular activites has been cut, however this is widespread over schools over America and not at all suprising. They are still readily availiable, however and are said to be quite good. Parent involvement is okay at this school. It could be better, but when they need parents for something important, they always manage to find them. Overall it is a wonderfull school, very strongly commited to creating a positive learning environment.
