I love this school. The campus is a tab run down however the teachers make up for it! They really encourage inquiry based learning and encorage students to find their own voice. My son is in the 6th grade and has adjusted to life in middle school quite well. I am proud to be a Peterson mom!

My daughter went here for 3 years & my son is now in 7th grade. Overall, we all like the school. There has been a shake-up in teachers but I think maybe it was well-founded & they needed to move on so the Admin. could try new & different things. My son is in the honors program & doing great things. He also needed help with speech therapy & he got the help he needed & probably won't be in it this year. Most of the teachers are really great. We love the fact that they offer woods / metals / art / cooking, etc. Not all kids are geniuses & they need other outlets. We really are happy with our 4 years there & looking forward to the next 2 years there. Highly recommended!

As public schools in the area go, this one is fairly good. However, a major problem with this school (and I suppose with other public schools in this area) is student apathy. According to our daughter the majority of students at this school are not interested in learning and many are disruptive in the classroom. Our daughter has been there 3 years and will be moving on to high school next year. The teachers seem to be quite capable, but the behavior of the students is quite troubling. I can only guess it's because of a lack of parent involvement.

I think Peterson is standard when it comes to academics, not above or below my expectations. They have had a bit of an administrative shake up this year with a few teachers leaving in the middle of the year that caused some disruption to the students. The Sports programs seemed to be pretty good with the director being very dedicated and involved.

Peterson is a great School. My daughter is currently in 7th grade and I am very happy with her performance. She has been in honor roll since she started in 6th grade. It is true it much depends on the student and the parents to push it to the max, but I know that if a student doesn't have the support from the teacher, no matter what a parent does the student won't care. I think the school and the teachers are great! I have gone to several middle schools in other districts, and I have found they don't offer kids honor programs for those who are ahead on their regular classes. I think this is important because it teaches kids not to be comformists, to keep reaching for more and they end up feeling better about themselves. They have fun electives like foods and woods and good science programs!I-am-a-proud-parent-of-a-Peterson-student.

There is a great astronomy program after school. The science teachers love it here. There is a trip to florida to snorkel and swim with dolphins. The students are very nice. The principal is new this year (06)

Peterson Middle School was a mediocre school with the exception of some excellent teachers. The Honors program in itself, excluding the 8th grade teachers, was a good opportunity for gifted students. Although only 7th and 8th grade students could be in the program in English and Social Studies. There was a band, no art programs besides the elective, and no extracurriculars except for sports. The administration was not the best it could be.

I thought the sixth grade program was outstanding. The sixth-grade science teachers, math teachers, and language arts teachers were excellent. They were very concerned with the kids (they offered afterschool help) and were quick to respond to parents inquiries. Also, the field trips for the sixth-grade students were fun and educational. The seventh and eighth grade programs have been okay (not as outstanding as the sixth-grade program). The pluses that I see are the afterschool homework club that is offered this year and the websites that some teachers have to inform the parents and students about their classes and the students' grades. Overall, my son who is now in 8th grade, has had a good learning experience at this school.

Academically: The math honors program is excellent. My kid went in strong and came out stronger. The English curriculum is moderate to weak in seventh & eighth grade. Social studies depends very much on the teacher: there are a few good ones. If you're main concern is academics, sign up for the sixth grade Peterson Plus Program. It is excellent. Also, stick to honors classes. The non-honors curriculum doesn't impress me at all. Overall, I was satisfied with Peterson, though I am planning to talk to the principal about the weakness in their Language Arts program. Regarding leadership, the school changed principals two years ago, then again this year. The new guy may be a real asset. Teacher quality is variable, but a few have been outstanding.

Very good school with very nice and large facilities such as 2 swimming pools, large football field etc. And also, they have Basics+ section similar to Millikin Basics+. A lot of diversity and teachers are very good.
