Most programs are great. Students like the science program, but they don't appear to have to work very hard to get a good grade. When my 8th grade son took the STAR test, he knew everything on the test, which showed me that science was taught well without much effort and the kids liked it. Fairly safe and positive environment. Great place for good students to move forward, but no effort to foster or encourage top students in any subject in an otherwise high ranking school.

Great School. Teachers are nice. Science teachers need more work and less homework! But Core and Math teachers Rock!

Music program one of the best, and dedicated. Parents play an important role. After school Math Olympiad, Math Counts, and AMC8/10 strong here. A wonderful mix of nationalities, all working toward prime education. It's little wonder that Saratoga's API scores are high for middle school - a rarity. Teachers individually are mixed in reviews, but the majority are top quality. The updated campus and better drop-off, pickup points; responsive principal; and strong PTA make Redwood one of the most pleasant middle schools. Only wish the front desk receptionists were more helpful, sympathetic, and friendlier to both parents and students. Snippy attitudes - like grocery checkers who talk amongst themselves, ignoring those around them.

We have 2 children at Redwood Middle School 6th and 8th grade. There needs are polar opposites so we have a fairly good idea of the range of services at this school. For our stonger academic student, CORE Language Arts, Literature and Social Studies is excellent. It is challenging by not overwhelming. The math program is sorely lacking. Both students feel that they are getting a poor education in math. Maybe that is why there is such strong parent programs for after school math programs. Special needs kids have RSP teachers eager to help. The problem is communication with Math and Science teachers. The collaborative model generally does work and the kids are monitored carefully. The good news is the school is so big that many extracurricular activies exist. The bad news is the school is so big and there attemp to divide into 2 small schools is only marginally successful.
