The academics are poor and bullying is very common. Save your money and go to public school or look at one of the more tolerant (and academically superior) schools in the area.

Lower grades were good but there are alot of very snobbish families with kids who bully. Academics are ok but could be better. Sports are very big there but usually off campus, given that it is so small. If your kids aren't into sports, they may not fit in well. Principal just left after a rocky tenure. It has the potential to be a good school because the teachers are good, so it will be interesting to see what the new administration does.

St. Matthew's is an excellent choice if you are looking for a superior education for your child on the peninsula. The teachers are fabulous, the kids are happy, and for the most part, the entire community seems to be focused on the same thing: giving these kids a solid foundation. Extracurricular activities are lacking somewhat, but these days most things are done outside of school anyway.

St. Matthews is a fine small school. As a parish school it works within the constraints of a very small campus so sports is not heavily emphasized thankfully. The older teachers are true veterans and give the students a very quality experience though several have or will soon reach retirement so turnover brings some unknowns. There is a core of parents who dominate the social scene and can be overbearing to those who are not particularly status conscious or very wealthy. But there are enough 'normal' parents that it not terribly challenging to find others with more down to earth values. Overall, my children really enjoy the school, love learning, and are thriving there so I go with success.

St. Matthews is a very small, academic school with one class per grade. If small class size and a close community are important to you, St. Matthew's is a good choice. Although the school is Episcopal, the religious instruction is very reasonable and unobtrusive. The headmaster of the school is moving and the school is currently looking for a new headmaster. Parents are very supportive. The school is very good at developing the 'whole' child (mind, body & spirit).
