Ms. Lewis is the greatest thing that has happened to Union. There has been great change and teachers are much happier. Ms. Lewis has an infectious personality that is child centered. I have 5 other kids that will be going through Union. I hope she is there for the duration. Great job Principal Lewis.

Am currently going here. Some teachers are cool but most are way to strict and have no sense of humor unless your one of their favorites.

We have loved our 3 years (so far) at Union! The staff is really wonderful, very responsive to parents, dedicated to teaching, and quick to deal with any issues that arise. The facilities are beautiful, newly remodeled. My daughter has been encouraged to take challenging courses rather than coast through easier classes. Academics seem great too, 7th grade science included frog dissection, something I did not do until college! Drop off/Pick ups are the only draw back, very overcrowded traffic and difficult to navigate.

I had a daughter go through all 3 years, and a son transfer out after one semester, due to family move. I thought the teachers were excellent for the most part, worked with my daughter when she got off track. I would do everything I could as a parent to get my child into Mrs. Martin's science class. She is outstanding. The band program is good, Mr. Kay does well despite a lack of resources. Athletics are strong, although some of the coaches are more concerned with being cool than coaching. Socially, the student body tended to be clicky, somewhat snobby and unaccepting of kids who didn't look, dress or act a certain way. Overall, my children had a good experience.

Some very good teachers with nurturing, positive relationahips with kids. Unfortunately, there is also an element of negativity among some staff members that kills the joy of learning for their students. The administration, from the top down, is unresponsive to parent input. This is not a place for sensitive kids.

Two kids thru Union MS to Leigh HS and two currently enrolled. Most Teachers are excellent, love their jobs and are involved in many school programs. Previous Principal Stan Bovee was weak on communication and discipline as mentioned. Band is offered and they are good enough to play local parades/sporting events. Sports are coached mostly by Teachers and teams typically finish near the top of their Divisions with many Championships. Most students walk or are dropped off by parents, a true neighborhood school.

I echo many of the reviews preceeding mine, unfortunately, they tend to echo the negative. Most of the teachers seem more concerned with being 'right' then being helpful. When you meet your student's teachers for the first time, they will boast a quick response to parents questions. Be prepared to wait...and wait...and wait. And don't expect to be satisfied with the reply. Calls can also take days to be returned. My child suffers tremendous personal challanges and as a result often gets off track. Some teachers appear annoyed by this as a classroom disruption rather then an opportunity to help a struggling student. If your child is entering the 6th grade, I strongly suggest looking at other options before settling on UMS.

the quality of the academic must be very good because my daughter had a 3.5 gpa but complained every night about how much home work she had. extra curricular activities are available, but they all cost to participate. That to me should be an unnecessary deterrant. There seems to be a high level of parent involvement.
