I took my son to see Dr. Winton when he was 4 months old because of a family history of eye problems. He also saw her when he was 3 years old. She was very patient and good with him. She explains things well.

My 5 year old son has strabismus / extropia in both eyes. I was referred to Dr. Winton by a friend whose daughter is legally blind. Dr. Winton was the doctor able to diagnose her daughter’s somewhat rare condition. After 2 consecutive disappointing visits with Dr. Green in regard to my son, we recently went to Sunnyvale to see Dr. Winton. The office is very spacious and child friendly. The waiting area has an aquarium and lots of different toys to play with. The ENTIRE staff was very friendly and accommodating with the children. They were also very helpful and tolerant of my 22 month old daughter who is in a very “busy” phase right now. Dr. Winton’s assistant, Maria did an array of in depth eye testing on my son. They dilated his eyes and then Dr. Winton came in to examine my son. She is a mom herself and understands mommies and children. She explained in such an easy to understand and CARING fashion what is going on with Bobby’s eyes. She increased his eyeglass prescription and gave us a good game plan from which to proceed. While Dr. Green’s office sent us away with a computerized eye exercise program which we had to figure out on our own and try to muddle through which exercises we should be doing (convergence, divergence, many other vergences) – Dr. Winton set up an appointment for us with an optometrist who is familiar with the program, would evaluate what we’ve been doing with it, and fine tune our use of it to ensure we are using it properly for my sons condition. For example with his condition he should NOT be doing the divergence exercises AT ALL. But no one at Dr. Green’s office told us that. It was more “here’s the program—go figure it out on your own.” For my son’s condition he should only be doing the convergence exercises. Anyway, the exam with Dr. Winton’s office was such a breath of fresh air. If we do have to go the surgery route (of which she’s done thousands of) I feel I’m in the hands of a doctor who is qualified and can converse in an empathetic way with her patients.
Thanks to Savvy in Silicon Valley.
