They recycle all of the typical things you think about - batteries, cell phones, computers, stereos - as well as things I didn't even know could be recycled like CDs, VCR tapes, audio tapes, and computer mice.

A lot of the items are recycled for free like cell phones, batteries, ink cartridges, CDs, DVDs, and California-sourced TVs and computer monitors. Other items have a small flat-fee or per-pound rate.

A full list of what they recycle is on their web site under Services - What We Recycle.

They also have a recycling kiosk at Palo Alto Hardware on Alma Street where you can recycle CDs, DVDs, cell phones, batteries, and printer ink cartridges.

Their web site has a ton of great information, a blog, and a classifieds section where people can post giveaway, for sale, and items wanted.

A really important thing in my opinion - they recycle everything in the U.S., so we're not exporting e-waste and hazardous waste to other countries.

This is a neat organization. They recycle all sorts of electronic equipment and phones (cell and other) as well as DVDs, batteries, disks, printers, faxes and all sorts of related paraphernalia. Mostly it's free, but to recycle something like a DVD player or printer, it might cost you a max of $5. You can drop your stuff off or call to arrange pickup. They also do hard disk destruction, cell phone erasing, and they'll give you a box for your office or home where you can dump batteries, disks, CDs etc then when it's full you bring in the box and get an empty one.

Website is full of really interesting info (send your kid there if doing a school project on recycling of electronics!).

For Silicon Valley pickups, here is their number: 1.877.918.8700 x706 or email svpickup@greencitizen.com
