The food is very good, the restaurant is attrative and not pretentious, and the prices are not outrageous even though it is right in the epicenter of Palo Alto's University Ave outrageous priciness. The service is often slow, perhaps an old-world touch, but allows you to relax and enjoy the food. I'm not impatient by nature so don't mind this aspect much.

I had a very good birthday lunch with one of the best, most surprising vegetarian raviolis I've ever had. Lovely bistro, upscale atmospher.

I had a delicious weekday lunch here. They have a new $7.50 express lunch menu that is guaranteed to be served in 15 minutes after you order or it's free. I had a really nicely spiced roasted chicken sandwich with a side salad of bright mixed greens. This is a great place for a quick, but still nice lunch with food that's several notches above fast lunch places.
Paul Cohen took over as head chef in Mid-May, and he is fantastic - really cares about the quality of the food and has great plans for personalized dining experiences - Chef's Table meals tailored to particular dietary and taste request as well as Guest Chef meals where the customer gets to create the menu and be the head chef. The folks at Zucca do the ordering and prep - very creative and unique.
If you haven't been to Zucca in the past few weeks, it deserves a visit. My husband and I went there for dinner several months ago. With Paul as the new head chef now, things have really come together since then.
Muriel will take good care of you in the front. She's been in the restaurant business for over 25 years, and has quite a long history in Palo Alto. She knows the folks in town and will make you feel welcome in a California-European way.
Praveen owns both Zucca European in Palo Alto and Zucca Ristorante in Mountain View. He is working hard to make the new Palo Alto location as well-loved and patronized as the Mountain View location.
