All I can say is that if Ms. JZ Cool has any knowlege about the restaurant business she would have more than one wait staff person on a night where the anticipated crowd is for the Menlo Park Block Party. She should be ashamed that she allowed this to happen to her wait staff - one person for the entire outside seating. She then tried to tell us that it was an "unusual night". Sorry, it's an event in downtown Menlo Park. We won't go there again.

Jesse Cool recently redesigned JZCool Eatery as JZCool Eatery and Wine Bar. The prices are moderate for the area, and the food is creative and flavorful. The big plus - for prices similar to other restaurants, you get high-quality, local, seasonal, sustainable, and organic food and drinks. Gourmet can be good for us and the planet, too, and I'm happy to see that Jesse continues to prove that with her restaurants and community activities.
They serve organic, free-range, grass-fed, and wild poultry, meat, and fish. The produce is local, seasonal, and organic whenever possible. (I had a great plate of cheese-stuffed squash blossoms for an appetizer.) The dairy is local, organic, and artisanal. And, the wines and beers are all local, organic, sustainably and/or biodinamically farmed. I'm going to use their wine list (online at their web site) as a shopping list the next time I'm at a wine shop. I can go straight to some of these wines I haven't triend before.
For lunch, they have a good mix of casual-gourmet cold and hot sandwiches, soups, salads, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Prices run $3-$12 for appetizers to hot entrees.
The dinner menu offers soups, salads, appetizers, and entrees. Prices run $6-$22 for appetizers to dinner entrees. I jumped at the corn chowder because corn is in season - deee-liciously rich, sweet, and savory.
They also have live jazz on a regular basis, adding a nice touch to the atmosphere. Of course, you can choose to sit as close or far away as you like if you're there on a jazz night.
I liked JZ Cool Eatery when it was the more casual deli, but I'm really happy to see it as a nice dinner place and wine bar now, too. It goes to the top of my list for lunch and dnnner out - delicious, creative food that's local/seasonal/organic. I'm happy I can have a really great meal out and don't have to sacrifice on food quality or sustainability.
