The closest thing to perfect information on the market! I've used Kayak to shop for flights and hotels as it searches just about every online site available for these two things. I've found that for hotels Hotwire or Priceonline will give you a bit better pricing, however, Kayak lets you know what hotel you are getting before you sign up for it.

For people who feel like they have to make their own bookings OK it'g great, but for people looking for international air, book with a reputable travel agent who should be able to beat any price found through kayak.
Another thing to remember is for domestic flights, you get a better deal when air is combined with hotel, with or without car and better yet through a travel agent!

I also recommend Kayak for vacation planning. The site is great for finding deals on flights and hotels. In addition to the standard travel websites, Kayak also searches some more obscure sites that have good discounts.

As a travel agent, I actually check Kayak when I'm looking to beat the price on international air for clients needing to book flights all over the world. I always like to make sure I'm giving my clients a great deal. They end up paying less when I book them the exact same flights as the ones they select on Kayak!

This is a huge help in travel planning. In the past, when I went to book a flight reservation, I would open up at least three windows on my screen: Expedia, Travelocity, Orbitz, and perhaps a specific airline. Then I would check a bunch of different combinations to see which site offered the best fare.
Kayak does all that for me. They search all of the web sites for you (including Southwest - for times, and you click through for fares). They search all of the travel web sites and list the results from all of them (you can see which sites they searched, too).
For each flight, they show the price of that reservation on each of the different web sites (the same flight is different on different sites!)
Then you click through to buy the ticket directly from the travel web site.
It saves me so much time not having to go to each site, and I get all of the info on one screen.
Super helpful!
