It seems like there’s a national “holiday” for everything.<\/p>\n

From National Dog Day (and National Cat Day), to National Donut Day, National Earmuff Day, and National Bring Your Teddy Bear to Work Day (October 5, for anyone else who likes to live the cozy life) — it’s clear that anything can be celebrated with a special day.<\/p>\n

But one National Day was missing from the calendar, and it’s something we believe should<\/i> be celebrated: Self storage. We wanted a National Self Storage Day — a reason to celebrate our favorite industry and reflect on the past, present, and future of self storage.<\/p>\n

But National Self Storage Day couldn’t fall on just any day of the year. We wanted to make sure it was the right one.<\/p>\n

National Self Storage Day Is the Last Saturday in July<\/h2>\n

In 2021, National Self Storage Day will be on July 31.<\/b> In future years, it’ll fall on the last Saturday in July.<\/p>\n

But why?<\/p>\n

To pick that date, we analyzed Google trends data for searches for self storage. It was immediately clear that Google search interest for self storage peaks in July. May and June tie for second most popular months, with all other months trailing far behind. In the past five years, two of the top three most popular weeks for Google searches for self storage were the last week in July.<\/p>\n

In terms of which day of the week, Saturday is by far the most popular day to search for self storage on Google. Among the top 10 most popular days to search for self storage in the past 90 days, 5 of them were a Saturday.<\/p>\n

It makes sense, if you think about it. July is the peak of the summer moving season, when many people are relocating or downsizing their homes. It’s also in between school terms, meaning college students are leaving dorms and other temporary housing and moving around as they get ready for the fall semester. The last weekend in July is definitely primetime for self storage — and now it’s official with National Self Storage Day.<\/p>\n
