    RV Storage in Phoenix, AZ

In Phoenix, AZ, where temperatures reach 110°F degrees around 21 days per year (with July being the hottest month), you won’t want to store your RV just anywhere. In a perfect world, RVers like you should opt for an enclosed climate-controlled facility (or at the very least) a covered carport. Look for these premier RV storage spaces in some of Phoenix’s safest neighborhoods: Ahwatukee Foothills, Deer Valley, Paradise Valley, and North Gateway.

For some, indoor RV storage is out of the budget. So what’s the next best option? What Phoenix RV storage option will shield your pricey RV from the Arizona sun’s harsh rays?

    Motorhome parked in the outdoors

Outdoor storage (covered or uncovered) is cheaper overall than indoor storage, but is it as safe? It is if you choose an unpaved lot or driveway space in a residential area. On average, residential spaces are 14 times safer than commercial lots.

You spent thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars on an RV. So do your due diligence to protect your investment.

Here are our recommendations according to RV type:

RV parked on the side of a house

For larger motorhomes like the Forest River Cherokee (Class A’s and Cs around 20’-30’ long): A covered, secured RV pad

    Here’s why:

Beyond downtown Phoenix, the city’s overall crime rate will taper off. For example, South Mountain Village–one of Phoenix’s safest neighborhoods–is an 18-minute drive from downtown Phoenix. Compared to the bustling city center, crime rates are significantly lower. While Phoenix isn’t prone to rainstorms (which can cover your RV’s roof in harmful moisture and lead to leaks), without a carport your RV will be exposed to direct UV rays.

    Neighbors smiling for portrait

For camper vans like the Winnebago Revel (Class Bs around 20’ long): An enclosed unit or private garage

*Note: While some smaller RVs–think a small Class B camper van–can fit in a garage, other models require a space that’s 10’x20’ or larger.

    Here’s why:

Phoenix's scorching heat waves can damage your RV. For starters, your RV could sustain UV damage or heat-related damage (or both)—even if it’s only left out in the sun for a few hours. But with an enclosed garage, you can mitigate UV damage (and potentially heat-related damage if the garage is climate-controlled). Just be sure to measure your RV before booking an enclosed self-storage space in the Phoenix area.

For travel trailers like the Airstream Globetrotter (Approximately 20’-28 feet long): A long driveway or residential RV pad with overhead coverage

    Here’s why:

A covered residential RV space isn’t only protected from direct UV exposure but potential break-ins too. On average (depending on the neighborhood), residential RV storage spaces are 14 times more secure than other traditional options. Many Phoenix locals rate Ahwatukee Foothills as the safest neighborhood in Sun City.

For fifth wheels and toy haulers like the Dutchman Voltage (Up to 40’ long): An uncovered leveled RV pad

    Here’s why:

To park on an incline, you’ll need to purchase the right tools first: leveling blocks, stabilizers, you name it. Otherwise, you might wake up in the morning to find your RV has rolled into the neighbor’s front yard. While this slanted position can wear on your fifth-wheel or toy hauler’s tires, the minimal risk of wear-and-tear is a small price to pay for lower security risks.

Cost of RV Storage in Phoenix, AZ: Peer-to-Peer vs. Traditional

Traditional storage facilities like national indoor RV centers often lack transparency when it comes to RV storage pricing. They leave renters guessing with vague statements like “Costs vary based on location, unit size, and property amenities. Contact the facility for more information.”

Before long, you’ll end up on a call with an over-enthusiastic employee trying to sell you on the benefits of a year-long contract.

Enter peer-to-peer marketplaces like Neighbor. On our marketplace, you’ll find RV storage listings across all 50 states and numerous US cities. Once you’ve found the perfect place to store your RV, travel trailer, or fifth wheel, look for the monthly rate (which is clearly–and proudly–displayed). Soon you’ll notice that prices are approximately 30% lower on a peer-to-peer marketplace than they are with a traditional storage facility.

    • Traditional RV/trailer storage: Approximately $200-$250 per month.
    • Peer-to-peer platforms like Neighbor: $100-$150 per month

    Types of RV Storage Spaces

As an RVer, you’ll quickly notice that your options are limited when dealing with traditional storage facilities. Typically, you’ll be confined to two types of RV storage: canopy parking or standard storage units available in sizes such as 10’x20’, 10’x30’, and 10’x40’. For context, a camper van will (typically) fit in a 10’x20’ space while Class C motorhomes and trailers will need a 10'x30' space.

On peer-to-peer platforms, you’ll see a much wider variety of indoor and outdoor RV storage spaces (both covered and uncovered). You’ll even find a wide range of climate-controlled spaces–including these:

    • RV pads (both cement and unpaved)
    • Driveways
    • Private residential garages
    • Parking lots (both unpaved and paved)
    • RV-friendly carports
    • Pull-through unpaved lots

If you’re new to the Phoenix, AZ area, you may be unfamiliar with its scorching summers. In that case, check out this guide to keeping your RV cool in hot weather. Note: Phoenix typically sees temperatures over 90 degrees from May through September. Even in the fall months, September through November, temperatures can still break into the high 70s and low 80s so heat damage should still be a concern.

    Paved/Unpaved RV Pads

    • ✔️Outdoor
    • ✔️Can Be Covered or Uncovered
    • ✔️Back-In

    Right for You If:

    • You plan to leave your RV unattended for months at a time: If you won’t be around to check in on your RV periodically–maybe you’re living abroad or taking an extended vacation–choose a residential RV storage space. This small decision can reduce your risk of break-ins as residential spaces are shown to be 14 times safer than commercial spaces. Plus, your Neighbor host will usually check in on your RV for you.
    • You think the extra costs are worth the additional security: Parking your RV in someone’s private RV pad may be on the pricier side, but to you, this is a small price to pay for peace of mind.

    Not the Right Fit If:

    • You own a longer RV like a 40-foot fifth wheel or toy hauler. While many RV pads are 40 feet long (or close), you’ll need roughly two additional feet for your front landing gear. So this space is ideal for shorter fifth wheels and toy haulers that are 35’ long or less.
    • You’re still learning how to drive your RV. It can be difficult to maneuver your RV onto a paved RV pad, especially if you have to maneuver around other vehicles parked in the driveway. It’s even more difficult on an unpaved gravel pad.

    Paved Parking Lots

    Right for You If:

    • You want a cheaper RV storage option: Because you’ll be sharing the space with other vehicle owners, you’ll save on monthly rates.
    • Your RV is insured and you own an RV security system: While commercial lots tend to be targets of vehicle break-ins and auto theft, you’re confident in your RV’s security system. Plus, you know your insurance will cover you in the case of theft or damage.

    Unpaved Lot

    • ✔️Outdoor
    • ✔️Uncovered
    • ✔️Pull-through

    Right for You If:

    • You want RV storage to be easy (and stress-free): In traditional paved parking lots, it can be difficult to navigate around vehicles and other obstacles (light posts, medians, narrow pathways, etc.)--especially if you’re just learning how to drive an RV. But with an unpaved lot, there are no designated spaces, so you have more freedom (and space) to maneuver your RV in and out of the lot.
    • You want to save money on RV storage costs. You may have stored your RV on your driveway before. Now you recognize the damage the Arizona sun can do to your RV–but you still don’t want to spend an arm and a leg (especially when you weren’t paying anything before).

    Not the Right Fit If:

    • You want overhead coverage: Overhead coverage is rare with unpaved lots.
    • You don’t want to check on your RV in between RV trips. It’s recommended that you periodically check your RV for signs of heat/UV damage. Unfortunately, the unpaved lot where you’re storing your RV may be a 20-minute drive away if it’s located on the outskirts of town.

    Driveway

    • ✔️Outdoor
    • ✔️Uncovered
    • ✔️Back-in

    Right for You If:

    • You own a motorhome (rather than a trailer): While motorhomes can be stored safely on a sloped surface, parking on a trailer on an incline involves extra steps.
    • You like the idea of a host checking in on your RV. By parking your RV outside a host's residence, you'll have peace of mind knowing someone is readily available to address any concerns, whether it's suspicious activity or potential weather-related hazards (considering Phoenix's occasional flooding).

    Not the Right Fit If:

    • You want a private stall. While residential driveways typically only accommodate one trailer or motorhome at a time, other vehicles may be parked alongside your RV, reducing privacy.
    • You want a covered unit. Most driveways lack overhead protection, leaving your RV exposed to direct sunlight. Without regular roof maintenance or a custom RV cover, prolonged exposure to the sun can lead to significant long-term damage.

    Private Garage

    • ✔️Indoor
    • ✔️Covered
    • ✔️Enclosed
    • ✔️Back-in

    Right for You If:

    • You have a smaller RV: Class B camper vans and small teardrop trailers/pop-up trailers are a few examples of RVs that can fit comfortably in a standard-sized home garage.
    • You want to keep your trailer safe from heat damage: Without shade, days that are 100°F or higher can result in serious heat damage. Even if the garage isn’t climate-controlled, it will still protect against UV damage.

    Not the Right Fit If:

    • You’re looking for the cheapest option: For budget-friendly RV storage, look at unpaved lots, paved parking lots, or even driveway spaces.
    • You have a larger trailer: A standard-sized Class A RV or fifth wheel won’t fit in a standard-sized home garage that’s only 24’ long.

    Carport

    • ✔️Outdoor
    • ✔️Covered
    • ✔️Back-in

    Right for You If:

    • You’re concerned about UV damage: While you could invest in a sun shade or window shade, you want the maximum UV protection only carports can offer.
    • You want to prevent heat damage to the best of your ability: While your RV’s interior can reach temperatures 30 degrees higher than outdoor temperatures, shade coverage will mitigate at least some heat damage.

    Not the Right Fit If:

    • You struggle to back up your RV: Maneuvering into carports can be difficult for beginners. Make your life easier by opting for an unpaved lot or driveway space.
    • You want a large RV storage selection to choose from. Carports are some of the more rare spaces, especially in cities like Phoenix, AZ.
