"I needed a spot to park my food cart, I never used neighbors before, so I was very hesitant to park it with all the break ins around town. But this lot was PERFECT! I was able to tuck on trailer in the back, and they have apartments behind the lot, which was a little extra security. I was able to access the cart whenever, and Huy was very accommodating. Would definitely recommend this location."

"This location and property owner relieved all my reservations about Neighbors. This location has a very accessible, fully fenced, level pad shared with two big well mannered dogs that felt secure. Mr. Raymond was respectful and accommodating. Appointments were make and generous, even allowing me to do some minor routine maintinance work on my 5th wheel. I highly recommend! My first choice!"

Types of RV storage

Considering the unpredictable weather of Portland, Oregon, it's essential to store your RV, travel trailer, or camper properly during off-use seasons. Renting outdoor storage in the city provides an affordable, easy, and secure option for RV owners, safeguarding their investments from the elements and ensuring they’re ready for the next adventure.

Three primary storage options include indoor storage, outdoor storage, and covered storage. These can be provided by homeowners, businesses, and other property owners, giving RV owners various choices to suit their needs.

  • Outdoor RV storage: These can be spaces like driveways, parking lots or large yards, depending on the property. They are typically more affordable and offer easy access at any time. Despite exposure to weather, using a high-quality RV cover can provide adequate protection against Portland's rain and sun.
  • Covered RV Storage: This includes carports, canopy spaces, or other open-air structures that can serve as adequate shelter for travel trailers or motorhomes. These spaces offer a balance between cost and protection, as they shield the RV from direct exposure to the sun and rain, a key consideration given Portland's diverse climate.
  • Indoor RV Storage: This option includes larger structures like garages or warehouses where your motorhome can be completely enclosed. While they might come at a higher cost, they offer the best protection against weather conditions. They are ideal for luxury RVs or vintage campers that need extra care. They also provide optimum security, particularly during Oregon's long, wet winters.

These options can be found throughout Portland, offering flexibility and convenience for RV owners. It’s always important to consider the size, type, and needs of your RV or camper when selecting the right storage option. A fifth wheel might require a different type of storage compared to a pop-up camper, as height and length can affect where and how it can be stored.

Choosing outdoor RV storage

Choosing the right storage for your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome involves considering several key factors. Whether you're parking a pop-up camper or a sizable fifth wheel, these considerations will ensure your vehicle is secured and well-maintained.

  • Size Matters: It's not just about fitting your RV in a space, but also how you'll move around it. Ensure the storage spot you choose can not only accommodate the size of your vehicle but also has sufficient room for you to navigate safely around it. If you plan on storing additional items like camping gear or bicycles, you'll need some extra space.
  • Access and Convenience: Consider not only the hours during which you can access your vehicle, but also how easy it is to reach your vehicle within the space. The more convenient it is to retrieve and return your RV, the more you'll be able to utilize it. Look for a storage location that does not require complex maneuvers to park or retrieve your vehicle.
  • Location and Safety: Proximity to your residence and the safety of the neighborhood are two important factors. You want your RV close enough to make preparation for trips easy, but also in a location where it will be safe. Even though it's in storage, your vehicle still needs protection from potential harm. Opt for a residential storage space that offers these two key elements.

Climate considerations

Portland, Oregon experiences varied weather conditions throughout the year, which makes it crucial for RV owners to consider climate when opting for outdoor storage. The city is known for its warm, dry summers with average highs around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. During these months, a quality UV-protective cover can shield your travel trailer, camper or motorhome from sun damage and the elements.

In contrast, winters in Portland can be quite chilly, with average lows dropping to around 36 degrees Fahrenheit. To protect your RV during colder months, a weather-resistant cover with ample insulation is recommended. These covers can prevent potential frost damage and shield your vehicle from the dampness caused by Portland's frequent rainfall. Remember, proper climate consideration is key to keeping your RV in optimum condition.
