"Daniel was amazing! We bought a full sized school bus to renovate into a tiny home before discovering that conventional storage places refuse to store them as they are "eye sores" sight unseen and in good condition! We were incredibly grateful to find Neighbor and Daniel who was able to watch our bus for us over the winter while we searched for a more permanent place for us to work on our permanent home. Unfortunately the night I arrived it was raining and I ended up slightly off the roundabout gravel driveway I was aiming for onto more squishy dirt than I should have been while making my corner alone in the dark which ended up leaving a couple tire impressions on the yard that I felt absolutely horrible about but Daniel again was amazing about everything! We needed a place to go afterwards and when our family fell through Daniel came to our rescue again with a contact who had a contact and now our bus has a permanent home where we can work on it too! The entire experience was just amazing and we would absolutely do it again in a heartbeat if we needed storage!"

Types of RV storage

When it's time to park your motorhome, pop-up camper, or travel trailer for an extended period, consider the benefits of renting an outdoor storage spot. In Portland, Maine, diverse storage options abound - from industrial lots to residential driveways - each offering unique advantages for your RV storage needs.

  • Outdoor RV storage: Ideal for larger RVs, travel trailers, and motorhomes, outdoor storage offers unlimited height clearance and ease of access. Typically, these spaces can be located in open fields, expansive driveways, or unused corners of large properties. In Portland, with its expansive spaces and varied landscapes, outdoor RV storage allows for large vehicle accommodation and quick access to roadways for your next journey.
  • Covered RV storage: This option steps up the level of protection for your camper or travel trailer. Essentially a roof over your RV, a covered storage space could be a carport, a large awning, or an overhang attached to a residential property. In Portland's seasonal climate, this option provides an extra layer of security against weather elements like rain, snow, and the intense summer sun.
  • Indoor RV storage: This premium option provides the highest level of protection, encompassing your RV in a fully enclosed environment. Indoor storage options can be found in areas like large residential garages or spacious barns. These spaces offer maximum protection against Portland's harsh winter weather and ensure that your RV stays in pristine condition, ready for your next adventure.

Choosing outdoor RV storage

Choosing an optimal outdoor storage location for your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome is important to protect your investment. Consider the following factors when deciding on the perfect place:

  • Space Measurements: Make sure to account for the full size of your RV or travel trailer, including any additional attachments, like mirrors or a trailer hitch. It is essential to ensure that the outdoor storage space is wide and long enough not only to accommodate your vehicle but also to allow for easy movement around it. Additional area to store associated outdoor equipment can be a bonus.
  • Accessibility Factors: Consider the ease of access to your camper or fifth wheel. Are there specific hours that you can access your vehicle or is it accessible 24/7? Also, think about how easy it will be to move the vehicle in and out of the space, particularly if it's a large motorhome or fifth wheel.
  • Location Aspects: How close is the storage location to your home in Portland, Maine? Proximity can be a major factor, especially if you plan to use your vehicle frequently. Also, consider the safety of the neighborhood where the storage space is located. Security should not be compromised for convenience.

Climate considerations

When considering outdoor storage for your RV, motorhome, or travel trailer in Portland, Maine, it's vital to factor in the local climate. Summers can get quite warm, with average high temperatures reaching 79 degrees Fahrenheit in July, which can potentially damage the interior of your vehicle or cause fading to the exterior paint. During the peak winter months like January, temperatures can drop to an average low of 13 degrees Fahrenheit, which could result in frozen plumbing lines or damage to the batteries.

To safeguard your RV or camper against these conditions, consider investing in a high-quality, weather-resistant cover. This can provide protection against harmful UV rays in the summer and frost damage in the winter. It's also beneficial to use tire covers to prevent sun damage and to winterize your vehicle to protect its plumbing system during those colder months.
