"We had a wonderful experience storing our car and trailer at Brett’s. He was very responsive and hospitable. We weren’t familiar with the neighbor app but found it online and saw good reviews with Brett. We trailered our boat to Maine to cruise around Casco Bay and Midcoast and it was helpful and reasonable to store with Brett. Thanks so much Brett!"

85 x 20 Driveway in Falmouth, Maine

"Daniel was amazing! We bought a full sized school bus to renovate into a tiny home before discovering that conventional storage places refuse to store them as they are "eye sores" sight unseen and in good condition! We were incredibly grateful to find Neighbor and Daniel who was able to watch our bus for us over the winter while we searched for a more permanent place for us to work on our permanent home. Unfortunately the night I arrived it was raining and I ended up slightly off the roundabout gravel driveway I was aiming for onto more squishy dirt than I should have been while making my corner alone in the dark which ended up leaving a couple tire impressions on the yard that I felt absolutely horrible about but Daniel again was amazing about everything! We needed a place to go afterwards and when our family fell through Daniel came to our rescue again with a contact who had a contact and now our bus has a permanent home where we can work on it too! The entire experience was just amazing and we would absolutely do it again in a heartbeat if we needed storage!"

Types of RV storage

Deciding where to securely store your motorhome or camper when it's not in use can be a challenging task in a place like Searsmont, Maine. Not to worry, a broad range of options are available for rent, including outdoor, indoor, and covered storage, each with its unique benefits.

  • Outdoor storage: This is perhaps the most straightforward option, typically involving a flat piece of land on a residential property where the RV can be parked. The advantage to this type of storage is the ample space usually available, ideal for accommodating larger RVs such as a fifth wheel or sizable motorhome. Given Searsmont's generally peaceful and secure location, outdoor storage here can be a practical and economical option.
  • Indoor storage: This type of storage is an excellent choice for those looking to provide their RVs with maximum protection from the elements, particularly during the harsh Maine winters. Indoor storage facilities could be in the form of residential garages or large barns. Storing a camper or travel trailer in these spaces keeps it well-protected from snow, rain, or sun damage, ensuring it stays in top shape for your next adventure.
  • Covered storage: Similar to outdoor storage but with the added benefit of a roof overhead, covered storage provides a balance between cost and protection. Carports, large awnings, or specially built RV ports on residential properties are common examples of covered storage spaces. They offer a reasonable degree of protection against the weather, particularly useful to shield your RV from heavy snowfall and the intense summer sun in Searsmont.

Choosing outdoor RV storage

When it comes to storing your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome, the right outdoor storage location can make all the difference. Keep in mind the critical factors like size, access, and location to ensure a convenient and secure storage experience.

  • Size of the Space: Before committing to any storage location, measure your vehicle to understand exactly how much space you'll require. Don't forget to include any additional gear, such as hitching equipment or barbecue grills, that you plan to store. Ensure there's plenty of room for you to navigate around the vehicle without risking any damage, and don't underestimate the importance of extra space.
  • Access Times and Ease: Consider your routine and how often you'll want to access your camper or motorhome. Some storage spaces offer round-the-clock access, while others may have limited hours. Make sure the space is safe and easy to reach, whether it's driveway access or a dedicated entry point. Keep in mind your vehicle's size and handling when considering accessibility.
  • Proximity and Security: Ideally, your storage location should be reasonably close to your home or your regular travel routes. Convenience is crucial, especially if you plan to use your vehicle frequently. Evaluate the area's safety, both in terms of crime rates and environmental factors. A safe, well-lit area free of potential hazards like falling tree branches or flooding is essential for keeping your travel trailer in top shape.

Climate considerations

When storing your RV, camper, or travel trailer in Searsmont, Maine, it's crucial to consider the region's climate. In the heat of summer, temperatures can climb to an average high of 81 degrees Fahrenheit. This can lead to potential damage to your vehicle's exterior and interior. A UV-protective cover is a worthy investment to shield your RV from the sun's intense rays. It prevents paint fading and guards the tires against dry rot.

Winter in Searsmont, Maine, can be unforgiving as well, with average low temperatures dipping to 11 degrees Fahrenheit. Such extreme cold can cause severe damage to your motorhome's water system. Winterizing your RV, which includes draining and bypassing the water system, is a must. To further protect your vehicle, consider utilizing a breathable, waterproof cover to keep the cold and moisture out.
