What people say about renting self storage on Neighbor

20 x 10 Shed in Brunswick, Maryland

Verified Review

"Angie was very accommodating as we needed to pick up our car earlier than expected, on short notice. Garage access is via an alley behind the home. Upon arriving at the address it was unclear where the garage was located; a relative on site let us know about the alley. The space was fine and we appreciated using our own padlock to secure the doors. Overall we were very pleased with this storage facility."

Types of Storage

Renting a storage unit is a great way to store belongings and free up valuable space in the home. It is also a great way to protect items from theft, pests and the elements.

  • Drive-up units provide convenient access to items and are typically more affordable than other options.
  • Interior storage without climate control is great for short-term storage solutions, as it protects items from pests and theft.
  • Interior storage with climate control is perfect for items like furniture, electronics, and documents, providing an extra layer of protection from humidity, temperature and dust.
  • Outdoor parking is an economical option for vehicle storage, and can also be used to store items like patio furniture and grills.
  • Specialty self storage units are available for items such as wine, documents, and even boats. This type of storage offers the most customization and security for those looking for long-term storage solutions.

Choosing a Storage Unit

When selecting a storage unit in College Park, Maryland, there are several factors that should be taken into consideration.

  • Size: Choose the right size unit that can accommodate your items and provide you with enough space to move items in and out as needed.
  • Accessibility: Ensure that you can easily access the storage unit, that it is close to your home or business and can be reached quickly.
  • Security: Look for a storage unit with a lock and secure door or gate that will keep your items safe and protected.
  • Climate Control: Choose a storage unit with climate control to protect sensitive items from extreme temperatures.
  • Price: Compare prices to ensure that you get the best value for your money.

Climate Considerations

When looking to rent a storage unit in College Park, Maryland, it is important to consider the climate and weather of the area. In summer, the average high temperature is in the upper 80s, while in winter the average low temperature is in the mid-20s. In terms of storage, the benefits of climate-controlled units are that they provide a more consistent temperature year-round. These units are ideal for items that are temperature-sensitive, such as electronics or art.

On the other hand, non-climate-controlled units may be a good option for items that do not require temperature regulation. For example, non-climate-controlled storage is a great choice for items such as furniture or seasonal items.

However, regardless of whether you choose a climate-controlled or non-climate-controlled unit, there are still ways to protect your items. For example, sensitive items such as books or documents should be stored in airtight boxes. Additionally, items such as clothing should be stored in plastic bins to protect them from dust or moisture. Taking these precautions can help ensure that items stored in non-climate-controlled units remain in good condition.

Ourcomprehensive list of available Neighbor self storage spaces in College Park is a great place to start.

As a rule of thumb, a 5x5 will fit one piece of furniture or several boxes, a 5x10 will fit the contents of a 1-bedroom apartment, a 10x10 will fit the contents of a small home, a 10x15 will fit the contents of a 2-3 bedroom home, a 10x20 will fit the contents of a 4 bedroom home, and a 20x20 will fit a lot more.

Motorcycles and other small vehicles generally require a 5x10 storage space while most cars and trucks will fit within a 10x20. For larger trailers, RVs, and other vehicles you will likely need to pull out the measuring tape as they can require anywhere from 10x40 to 20x60 spaces.

We recommend climate controlled storage for most electronics, collectibles, personal items (books, clothing, and photos), and sensitive materials (glass, leather, and metal).

If you live in a dry climate, climate control isn't as much of a concern, though you should still consider temperature's effect on your items.

If you expect freezing temperatures during the period that you plan to store your vehicle, you should definitely consider winterizing your vehicle before storing to prevent unecessary harm to your vehicle.
