"So lucky to have found this storage option. Bobby provided a wonderful spot to store our RV at a very reasonable price. His storage is gated with security cameras. We moved our RV in and out to have it serviced a couple of times. He lives on the property and was there for us to let us in and out on short notice. There was no doubt that our RV was safe there. We would 100% store it there again."

Types of RV storage

Poway, California, with its scenic vistas and welcoming climate, is a haven for RV, travel trailer, and motorhome enthusiasts. To protect your recreational vehicle from weather wear and tear, or simply to free up some space in your driveway, consider renting a storage space specifically designed for RVs.

Three primary types of storage options are available, each offering unique advantages:

  • Outdoor RV storage: This type of storage is usually offered on residential properties, like spacious backyards or driveways. Outdoor storage is a simple and straightforward solution, providing an open space where your travel trailer or motorhome can be parked securely. Despite exposure to weather elements, a high-quality RV cover can often provide sufficient protection.
  • Covered RV storage: Often found in carports, canopies, or under a large roof, covered storage offers added protection for your RV. This storage type provides a shield against sun, rain, and other weather conditions, which is especially important considering Poway's sunny climate.
  • Indoor RV storage: For the utmost in protection, consider indoor storage in structures like oversized garages or warehouses. Indoor storage spaces are typically climate-controlled and offer the highest level of security against both weather conditions and potential vandalism. These spaces might be harder to find but are worth the search for those wanting maximum safeguarding for their RV.

Choosing the best RV storage

Taking the plunge to store your recreational vehicle, whether it's a pop-up camper, travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome, requires careful thought. There are three key considerations when choosing the perfect storage location for your RV - size, access, and location.

  • Evaluate Access Needs: The hours and ease of access to the storage location are vital. Choose a location that offers flexible access hours in sync with your travel schedules. It's also important to consider the ease of parking and moving your RV, especially for larger motorhomes or fifth wheels.
  • Consider the Size of the Storage Unit: It's critical to choose a storage space with the right dimensions to comfortably accommodate your RV. The unit should have enough room for the length and width of your vehicle, plus a little extra breathing room to avoid potential damage when moving around. The height of the storage unit is also critical, especially for taller RVs or fifth wheels. Additional space for storing associated gear could be a bonus.
  • Think about the Location: The storage location should ideally be within a reasonable distance from your home or frequent travel routes. Additionally, safety should be a priority. Choosing a storage facility in a secure, low crime rate area of Poway can offer an added layer of protection for your valuable travel trailer or motorhome.

Climate considerations

When storing a recreational vehicle in Poway, whether a travel trailer, pop-up camper, fifth wheel, or motorhome, it's essential to consider Poway's climate and how it fluctuates throughout the year. During the peak summer months, Poway experiences average high temperatures of around 89°F, so it's crucial to ensure your RV has sufficient ventilation to prevent heat build-up.

In contrast, during the peak winter months, the average low temperatures can drop to around 42°F. These cooler conditions can affect your RV’s battery, tires, and plumbing. Therefore, winterizing your vehicle is key. This process includes draining water systems, cleaning the RV, and making sure all openings are sealed from critters.

Moreover, using a high-quality RV cover can protect your vehicle from the elements, such as sun damage and precipitation, and keep it in optimal condition. Opt for a cover that is breathable, water-resistant, and designed to fit your specific RV type for maximum protection.

Choosing a storage location that offers indoor spaces can provide further protection from temperature fluctuations and adverse weather conditions. It's also beneficial for the storage location to have ample space for maneuvering your RV, regardless of its size and shape.
