50 x 15 Driveway in West Warwick, Rhode Island

Verified Review

"The site proved to be secure and unobtrusive as a place to keep our motorhome. The driveway is on a bit of a hill, so I had to position the motorhome transversely across the driveway which was a bit of a squeeze. The hydraulic lifters would not have worked on the hill. It might have made a difference to me to know about the hill ahead of time. Still, it worked out for us."

Types of RV storage

Storing your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome in New Bedford, Massachusetts doesn't have to be a headache. With a multitude of storage options available, local RV owners can find the perfect spot for their precious camper.

  • Outdoor RV Storage: This type of storage can include everything from a designated spot in a spacious backyard to a secure place on a commercial property. Ideal for larger RVs, fifth wheels, or motorhomes that may not fit in traditional indoor spaces, outdoor storage offers flexibility in terms of size and access. However, it's important to consider the New Bedford weather and how it could affect your RV.
  • Covered RV Storage: This option provides some protection against the elements, which is especially beneficial during New Bedford's snowy winters. Covered storage can be found in places like large carports or under specially designed canopies. This solution can offer a balance between cost and protection, shielding your travel trailer from damaging UV rays, rain, and snow while still being relatively affordable compared to indoor storage.
  • Indoor RV Storage: For those seeking maximum protection for their RV, indoor storage is the best choice. It provides a completely enclosed space, such as a large garage or warehouse. Indoor storage is particularly beneficial in protecting your camper from New Bedford's harsh winter conditions. Additionally, it offers increased security, as your RV is out of sight from potential thieves. Despite being potentially harder to find, the peace of mind and comprehensive protection that indoor storage provides can make it worth the effort in finding the right space.

Choosing the best RV storage

Storing your RV, whether it's a pop-up camper, travel trailer, fifth wheel, or motorhome, can be a complex task, especially when it comes to finding the right location. The following considerations will guide you towards making the right decision:

  • Spatial Dimensions: It's crucial to accurately estimate the space necessary to house your RV. Consider the length, width, and height of your motorhome or camper, and remember that additional room may be needed for other travel gear or for easy access to the vehicle. For safe and convenient storage, the unit should accommodate your RV without tightly squeezing it in.
  • Accessibility of the Storage Location: Take into account the accessibility of the storage unit. Are the hours of access suitable for your schedule? Can you get to your RV anytime you need it? If you plan on using your travel trailer frequently, easy, unrestricted access to your unit can make a huge difference.
  • Proximity and Safety of the Location: Location is a key consideration when storing your RV. Consider how close the storage location is to your home or your favorite travel routes. Is it in a safe neighborhood? Closer locations can save travel time, whereas safer locations can provide that peace of mind. Making a balance between proximity and safety can make the storage experience more convenient and secure.

Climate considerations

When storing a recreational vehicle in New Bedford, Massachusetts, it's crucial to consider seasonal factors. New Bedford's average high in peak summer months is around 80°F, which can cause heat-related damage to your travel trailer or camper. In contrast, winter brings average lows dipping to 20°F, which can result in freezing pipes and systems in your motorhome. Indoor storage helps mitigate these temperature extremes, providing a stable environment for your RV.

Protection is another key consideration. RV covers are great investments, as they protect your vehicle from UV rays in summer and snow in winter. A tip to remember: measure your RV correctly before buying a cover for an exact fit. Also, ensure the storage space has ample room to accommodate your covered RV comfortably.

Notably, it is close to several outdoor landmarks, such as the Acushnet River and Buttonwood Park.
