"We had a wonderful experience storing our car and trailer at Brett’s. He was very responsive and hospitable. We weren’t familiar with the neighbor app but found it online and saw good reviews with Brett. We trailered our boat to Maine to cruise around Casco Bay and Midcoast and it was helpful and reasonable to store with Brett. Thanks so much Brett!"

"Daniel was amazing! We bought a full sized school bus to renovate into a tiny home before discovering that conventional storage places refuse to store them as they are "eye sores" sight unseen and in good condition! We were incredibly grateful to find Neighbor and Daniel who was able to watch our bus for us over the winter while we searched for a more permanent place for us to work on our permanent home. Unfortunately the night I arrived it was raining and I ended up slightly off the roundabout gravel driveway I was aiming for onto more squishy dirt than I should have been while making my corner alone in the dark which ended up leaving a couple tire impressions on the yard that I felt absolutely horrible about but Daniel again was amazing about everything! We needed a place to go afterwards and when our family fell through Daniel came to our rescue again with a contact who had a contact and now our bus has a permanent home where we can work on it too! The entire experience was just amazing and we would absolutely do it again in a heartbeat if we needed storage!"

Types of RV storage

In Lewiston, Maine, residents with an RV, travel trailer or motorhome are often faced with the challenge of finding the right storage. Renting outdoor storage space could be a solution that offers both convenience and security, along with several other benefits.

In the pursuit of optimal storage for your RV, camper, or motorhome, consider the following three categories of options:

  • Outdoor RV storage: This type of storage is typically the most affordable and easily available. It implies parking your vehicle in an open residential or commercial space. While this option may expose your RV to elements like sun, rain, and snow, many outdoor storage options in Lewiston are secure and spacious, allowing for easy maneuvering and access.
  • Covered RV storage: This falls between outdoor and indoor storage in terms of cost and protection. Your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome will be parked under a roof, providing some protection from weather conditions. These spaces, which could be carports or overhangs on residential properties, offer better protection against the harsh Maine winters than outdoor parking.
  • Indoor RV storage: For those looking for the greatest level of protection, indoor storage provides a sheltered space to keep your vehicle. This can be inside large residential garages, barns or commercial warehouses. This alternative ensures your RV is protected from the elements and potential vandalism. However, these types of spaces can be harder to come by in Lewiston and may require more planning and coordination to store your vehicle.

Therefore, before you make a decision, assess the size, requirements, and budget for your RV, camper, or motorhome storage to identify the best fit for you in Lewiston.

Choosing outdoor RV storage

Finding the perfect outdoor storage spot for your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome requires careful consideration of multiple factors. It's essential to balance size, access, and location to ensure your vehicle is stored safely and conveniently.

  • Proximity and Safety: Location shouldn't just be about convenience. Consider the safety of the neighborhood where the storage space is located. Is it well-lit at night? Is it a high-traffic area? Ideally, you'll want a location that's relatively close to home in Lewiston, Maine, but also in a secure and safe area.
  • Storage Space Dimensions: Beyond fitting your RV, camper or motorhome, the size of the storage space impacts how easily you can move and maneuver your vehicle. The space should comfortably accommodate the length and width of your vehicle, along with any additional outdoor gear you might need to store. Don't forget to take into account the height of your RV when considering storage space.
  • Accessibility and Hours: The schedule of access to the storage space is equally important. Will you be able to access your RV on weekends or during non-business hours? Look for spaces that offer flexible, around-the-clock access, so you can hit the road for those spontaneous adventures anytime you want. Consider the ease of access to the space - is it straightforward to drive in and out? Keep in mind any potential obstacles that might make maneuvering your vehicle more difficult.

Climate considerations

Storing a recreational vehicle in Lewiston, Maine, requires consideration of the local climate. Summers in Lewiston peak at an average high of 79°F, which may raise concerns about sun damage to the RV's exterior, especially for pop-up campers, travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motorhomes. Conversely, the winter months can drop to an average low of 11°F, which could potentially damage RV plumbing systems.

To protect against the summer heat, consider using RV covers that reflect sunlight, reducing the heat absorbed by the vehicle. In the harsh, cold winters, insulated skirting around the base of the RV will help keep pipes from freezing. Therefore, regardless of the season, taking appropriate protective measures will help ensure the longevity of any RV stored outdoors in Lewiston.
