"Colleen is a great host. Easy to work with and very cooperative. We expected to store our 34' motorhome with her for one or two months. It turned into six months. The storage area is in her large back yard and not easily visible from the street. We had no second thoughts about security. Her place has easy access to all major thoroughfares. The only reason we move was to have our motorhome closer to where we lived. Bottom line, terrific host with desirable storage."

"Nicholas is an attentive young man who came in late to meet me and help position the vehicle in a logical plot on a section of a farm he has prepared and secured for this purpose. The location is rural but is cost effective. Recommend for those needing long term vehicle/camper/RV/self-contained mobile unit (container) storage."

Types of RV storage

Finding the right storage for your RV, travel trailer, or motorhome in the bustling city of Philadelphia can be a daunting task. However, renting a storage space specifically designed for recreational vehicles can relieve that stress and provide the security and protection your RV needs when it's not on the road.

Here are three categories of RV storage options you can consider:

  • Covered RV Storage: This option provides a roof over your RV, shielding it from the seasonal rainfall and snowfall notorious in Philadelphia. Examples of such storage types can include carports, dedicated RV canopies, or oversized awnings. They provide an affordable solution that offers a compromise between cost and protection against weather elements.
  • Outdoor RV Storage: Normally found in open lots or driveways, this option provides easy access and usually comes at a lower cost. It's an ideal choice if you frequently use your camper and are less concerned about exposure to weather. This option can be a great fit for the larger motorhomes that need more room to maneuver.
  • Indoor RV Storage: These are often in large residential garages, industrial warehouses, or even spacious basements. While this type is typically more costly due to the high degree of protection it offers, it can be worth the investment. Your RV will be fully protected from the Philadelphia weather and potential vandalism, ensuring your travel trailer remains in optimal condition for your next adventure.

Choosing the best RV storage

Finding the right storage location for your RV, travel trailer, or camper is important. Let's explore the three key factors to consider when doing so: the size of the storage space, the storage location, and the accessibility of the unit.

  • Considering Size requirements: The dimensions of your RV or camper should be the primary determinant when selecting a storage space. The breadth and length of the storage area should comfortably accommodate the vehicle. Additionally, envision the space you will need to navigate around the storage area without inflicting damage to your vehicle. Provision for additional travel gear storage is also worth considering.
  • Analyzing Storage Accessibility: The frequency at which you will need to access your RV, travel trailer, or camper should guide your choice. Consider the hours during which the storage area can be accessed. Ensure that those hours align with your availability and travel plans. Moreover, the ease of entry and exit, particularly for larger vehicles, is another factor you should consider under accessibility.
  • Evaluating the Location: The storage space's proximity to your residence or your common travel routes should be factored in. A nearby location would save you time and fuel costs, especially if you intend to use your vehicle frequently. Additionally, research the safety of the area around the storage location. It's crucial to ensure that the neighborhood provides a secure environment for your travel trailer or motorhome.

These considerations should guide you in selecting the right storage location for your RV. Remember that the ideal storage space is a balanced combination of size, access, and location.

Climate considerations

When considering RV storage in Philadelphia, keeping the vehicle in tip-top shape throughout the year is crucial. During the peak summer months, the city experiences average high temperatures of around 87 degrees Fahrenheit. During this time, it's recommended to use sun-protective covers to protect your travel trailer or camper from harsh UV rays that can cause exterior damage and fade the interior.

In contrast, Philadelphia's winter months can be quite cold, with average lows dipping down to about 26 degrees Fahrenheit. During these colder periods, investing in high-quality insulated covers for your fifth wheel or motorhome can prevent damage from the cold and keep the vehicle well protected. Offering additional protection from snow and ice, these covers can be vital in maintaining the good condition of your recreational vehicle.
